During an online digital launch held last Saturday, September 12, 2020, Toyota Motor Philippines (TMP) officially unveiled the updated 2020 Toyota Hilux with an attractive price structure that ranges from P843,000 for the base model Hilux Cab & Chassis variant up to P1,850,000 for the top-of-the-line Hilux Conquest variant (P1,830,000) finished in premium Emotional Red metallic paint that has an additional P20,000 price tag. TMP aims to strengthen the position of the Hilux as the Philippines’ best-selling pickup truck with the updated model’s rugged good looks and powerful yet economical diesel performance.
Combined with Toyota’s signature quality, durability, and reliability, the Hilux captured a commanding 30.5% market share in its segment, which TMP hopes to maintain with the introduction of the updated version of the world-renowned pickup truck. “This 2020, the new Toyota Hilux and Hilux Conquest come with an impressive new look that is more rugged and more exciting than ever”, said TMP President Atsuhiro Okamoto during the new vehicle’s online launch. “The new Hilux is designed to meet the tough demands of Filipino drivers and the country’s varying roads. I am confident that the Hilux would once again prove why it is the Philippines’ pickup truck of choice.”
Tough on Every Road
The new Hilux is powered by either a 1GD-FTV or 2GD-FTV engine that shows a 4-5% improvement in fuel efficiency compared to the previous generation Hilux. The 2.8-liter 1GD-FTV diesel engine, which delivers 201 horsepower (204 PS), churns out 420 Newton-meters of torque for the Hilux 4×4 M/T with the Intelligent Manual Transmission and 500 Nm for the automatic transmission-equipped Hilux 4×4 A/T. On the other hand, the 2.4-liter 2GD-FTV diesel engine, which produces 148 hp and 400 Nm of torque, powers the Hilux 4×2 Conquest, G, and E variants.
Aside from improving the new Hilux’s power and fuel efficiency, Toyota prioritizes in safety to guarantee the driver’s and passengers’ peace of mind. All three Hilux variant grades come equipped with SRS airbags (7 airbags for the Hilux 4×4 A/T Conquest), 3-point ELR seat belts, Anti-lock Brake System (ABS) with Brake Assist and Electronic Brake force Distribution (EBD), Vehicle Stability Control (VSC), and Hill Start Assist (HSA). Hilux Conquest 4×4 variants have Downhill Assist Control (DAC) and Active Traction Control (ATC) and all Conquest variants come with clearance sonars and reverse cameras. Hilux G variants come with back sonars.
Every Inch A Hilux
The new Toyota Hilux was updated with improved looks, performance and features that makes every inch of this pickup truck a Hilux that loyal Toyota owners and enthusiast know and love. It looks tougher, more rugged, and more macho yet TMP made it even more exciting with the introduction of Emotional Red, a color exclusive to its Conquest variants. Other features that are exclusive to the Conquest are the bi-beam LED headlamps and LED rear combination lamps with line guide, and sports bar with LED lamps. The tailgate gets the signature Hilux branding, with an over fender garnish and Conquest decals on both sides of the cargo bed. The Hilux Conquest’s deck space offers plenty of cargo room, protection and convenience with tail gate assist and bed liner.
The Hilux E, G, and Conquest grades all come with Keyless Entry while Conquest variants come with Smart Entry and Push Button Start/Stop systems. All three grades also have speed-sensing power door locks, power side mirrors with auto fold function, 4.2-inch TFT multi-information display with steering wheel switches and Apple CarPlay/Android Auto. Hilux Conquest grades offer an easier drive with its Cruise Control system.
A Hilux for Every Need
Toyota designed the new Hilux to take on the toughest tasks, not just for fun and adventure but also for work and business. Aside from Conquest, G and E grades, TMP will continue to offer the Hilux J grade in 4×4 and 4×2 variants, as well as the Cab & Chassis and FX models for its fleet and business partners. During the online launch, TMP also introduced the Toyota Hilux Cargo, a more affordable variant powered by the same 2GD engine that is specifically designed for the more demanding needs of mobilizing goods and services, especially during this pandemic economy.
