SM Supermalls Enhances Holy Week EV Travel with Expanding Charging Network

SM Supermalls is enhancing Holy Week travel for Electric Vehicle (EV) owners by expanding its network of Electric Vehicle Charging Stations (EVCS). With 123 stations currently in operation and an additional 50 planned by 2025, this initiative supports eco-friendly journeys for both northbound and southbound trips—all available with free charging at 69 SM malls.

As an accredited operator of EVCS by the Department of Energy (DOE), SM Supermalls ensures that its stations meet national standards. This commitment addresses infrastructure limitations and promotes EV adoption, aligning with DOE goals and positioning SM as a key player in the Philippines’ transition to a low-carbon future.

The use of EVs significantly reduces greenhouse gas emissions, including carbon dioxide (CO?), which contributes to global warming. Unlike gasoline- or diesel-powered vehicles, EVs produce no direct emissions.

For Holy Week road trips, free EV charging is available at 69 participating SM malls, including:

Northbound Adventures
Heading to Baguio? An EV trip from SM Mall of Asia (MOA) to SM City Baguio (266 km) typically consumes about 50 kWh one way, avoiding approximately 0.067 metric tons of CO? on a round trip. This is equivalent to the emissions from 7.6 gallons of gasoline or 74.6 pounds of coal. For top-up stops, EV drivers can recharge at SM City Rosales or SM City Urdaneta Central.

From SM North EDSA (253 km), travelers save approximately 0.065 tons of CO? (or 7.3 gallons of gasoline) on a similar route, while SM City Fairview (252 km) may not require a charging stop, leading to savings of about 0.06 tons of CO?.

Shorter northern trips, such as from SM MOA to SM City Clark (96 km) or from SM North EDSA to Clark (83 km), often need no stopovers, resulting in up to 0.02 metric tons of CO? savings—equivalent to 2 gallons of gasoline.

For longer journeys, travelers heading to SM City Naga from SM MOA can stop at SM City Lucena (248 km), achieving round-trip CO? savings of 0.061 metric tons—equivalent to 6.9 gallons of gasoline or 67.8 pounds of coal.

Eco-friendly travel is also convenient with charging stations at SM City Cebu, SM City Cagayan de Oro (Downtown & Uptown), and SM Lanang in Davao. A 280 km round trip between SM City CDO Downtown and SM Lanang in Davao avoids 0.035 tons of CO?, equivalent to 3.9 gallons of gasoline or 38.5 pounds of coal, without the need for stopovers.
