Highlights of the Singapore Motorshow 2025

Situated off the southern tip of the Malay Peninsula, the island nation of Singapore covers an area of just around 735 square kilometers. With its small land mass, the country has decidedly strict car ownership rules, including a Vehicle Quota System (VQS) that limits the number of vehicles on the road, a Certificate of Entitlement (COE) that allows a person to register, use and drive a vehicle for 10 years, and stringent vehicle inspection by centers authorized by the Land Transport Authority (LTA).

Starting this year, Singapore will no longer permit the registration of diesel and diesel-natural gas cars and taxis and by 2030, the LTA will only register battery electric vehicles (BEVs) or hybrids (HEV/PHEV). With the country’s Gross Domestic Product estimated at $880 Billion and a Per Capita GDP of $148,186, it’s not surprising that majority of the vehicles displayed during the recently concluded motor show were clean energy vehicles.

The Singapore Motorshow 2025, which was held from the 9th to the 12th of January at the modern Suntec Singapore Convention and Exhibition Centre, was presented by the Motor Traders Association of Singapore (MTA) in partnership with Mediacorp and supported by the Japan Automobile Manufacturers Association (JAMA). The motor show featured a large lineup of displays, featuring around 160 vehicles from 31 car brands, with battery electric vehicles (BEVs), hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs) and plug-in hybrids (PHEVs) accounting for over 70% of the displays. Here are the highlights:

We can only anticipate what the 2025 Manila International Auto Show (MIAS) can offer to match or exceed what the motor show in the tiny but wealthy city-nation of Singapore offered to its car-loving show goers. Singapore has definitely thrown a motor show challenge to its ASEAN neighbors!
