Tokyo, September 2, 2026 — Mitsubishi Motors Corporation (hereafter, Mitsubishi Motors) proudly unveils the fully redesigned, all-new Pajero — a next-generation flagship SUV that marks a new chapter for the Mitsubishi Motors brand. Debuted at its world premiere, this model embodies a perfect blend of heritage and innovation, setting new standards in performance, comfort, and prestige.
Global Launch Plan:
During fiscal year 2026, Mitsubishi Motors will begin phased introductions worldwide. From fiscal 2027 onward, the all-new Pajero will be available in approximately 100 countries, including key markets in ASEAN, Latin America, and the Middle East, reaffirming its status as a truly global flagship.
A Legacy of Adventure and Reliability.
Since its debut in 1982, the Pajero has been renowned as a robust cross-country 4WD that harmonizes off-road prowess with passenger-car-like comfort. Celebrated for its durability and authentic off-road capability, it became a symbol of Japan’s RV boom in the 1990s, with total production exceeding 3.29 million units across four generations. With a loyal following across more than 170 countries, the Pajero stands as one of Mitsubishi Motors’ most iconic models.
Evolution of a Heritage.
Building on its long-standing philosophy, the all-new Pajero integrates “Confidence,” “Comfort,” and a new dimension, “Prestige.” It continues to deliver proven off-road reliability and passenger comfort while elevating its image with premium quality and refined design, befitting a flagship model.
Design Excellence
The new Pajero commands attention with bold proportions characterized by strong horizontal lines and a commanding stance. The exterior design echoes its heritage through signature motifs — including powerful fenders inspired by performance capabilities, sculpted surfaces that enhance its presence, and design cues like the iconic C-pillar inspired by the original roll bar. Two distinctive grille options— a precise horizontal-bar design reflecting Japanese craftsmanship, and a honeycomb grille symbolizing strength and streamlined beauty — offer customization options. Modern T-shaped LED headlights reinforce its advanced look.
Inside, a meticulously crafted interior combines heritage-inspired elements with contemporary luxury. Signature motifs, soft-touch materials, and a Kimekomi-inspired stitching technique elevate the cabin’s tactile and visual appeal. The spacious, refined environment ensures comfort for all occupants, featuring a three-zone climate control system and advanced noise insulation, creating a serene space even at highway speeds.
Premium Features and Connectivity
The all-new Pajero boasts a cutting-edge 14.3-inch horizontal display, offering intuitive graphics and dynamic visual effects aligned with driving modes. The reimagined Multi-Meter displays vital information like altitude, heading, and vehicle status, providing drivers with a modern interpretation of Pajero’s traditional gauges.
Connectivity is enhanced with a wireless smartphone-link system, enabling seamless access to navigation, music, and apps. An optional Yamaha-designed Premium Sound system with 12 speakers and noise compensation technology ensures an immersive audio experience.
Performance and Capabilities.
Rooted in Mitsubishi’s rich rally heritage, the Pajero’s foundation is its highly rigid ladder frame, reinforced with high-tensile steel for superior durability and handling. The vehicle is powered by a 2.4L clean diesel engine with a wide-range VGT turbocharger, delivering 480 Nm of torque, paired with a newly developed 8-speed automatic transmission for smooth, responsive driving.
Off-road, the Pajero excels with Mitsubishi’s Super-All Wheel Control (S-AWC) and Super Select 4WD-II (SS4-II) systems, offering multiple drive modes (2H, 4H, 4HLc, 4LLc) and active torque management. These systems, combined with a sophisticated suspension setup featuring independent double-wishbone front and five-link rear axles, ensure outstanding handling, stability, and ride comfort across diverse terrains.
Its dimensions—measuring 4,920 mm in length, 1,925 mm in width, and 1,910 mm in height—coupled with a ground clearance of 230 mm, approach, departure, and ramp angles, and a 2,870 mm wheelbase, make the Pajero versatile for both city driving and rugged adventures.
Passenger Comfort and Safety:
The spacious interior offers a three-row, seven-seat layout with optimized packaging and adjustable seats, including a sliding second row and ample third-row headroom. Features like seat ventilation, three-zone climate control, and ergonomic design ensure long-distance comfort.
Safety is paramount, with advanced driver assistance systems including Forward Collision Mitigation, Junction Assist, Emergency Lane Assist, and the innovative MI-PILOT highway driving support system. Eight airbags, including Mitsubishi’s first center SRS airbag, provide comprehensive occupant protection.
Enhanced Visibility and Convenience.
The innovative 3D Multi Around Monitor employs four cameras to provide a real-time, 360-degree view, including a front under-floor perspective for challenging terrains. Mitsubishi’s MITSUBISHI CONNECT system offers remote vehicle control, emergency SOS, and vehicle status updates for peace of mind.
A Model for the Future.
Keisuke Kishiura, President and COO of Mitsubishi Motors, states: “Under our Mid- to Long-Term Vision for the 2030s, the all-new Pajero exemplifies our commitment to developing distinctive, premium products that reinforce our brand’s core values. It is designed to lead not only the Pajero lineup but the entire Mitsubishi Motors range, embodying our pursuit of quality, reliability, and innovation.”
