Jaguar Land Rover Philippines Goes Electric and Green

All British Cars, Inc., the exclusive distributor of Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) vehicles in the Philippines unveiled three (3) ground-breaking vehicles today (July 7, 2020) using the online platform in compliance with the government advisory against mass gathering. JLR Philippines General Manager Chris Ward presented the 2020 Range Rover and Range Rover Sport Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV) models and the 2020 Jaguar I-Pace Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV) model during the digital online launch while streaming from the new JLR Boutique Showroom at the Bonifacio Global City (BGC) in Taguig City.

“The world is changing and most of the major car manufacturers are embracing the change towards electrification to safeguard the environment”, said Chris. “We want to be at the forefront of change with the PHEVs from Land Rover and the BEVs from Jaguar which are designed to emit ultra low emissions, or even ZERO emissions, in case of the I-Pace, to help minimize air pollution and help reverse the effects of global warming.”

Range Rover PHEV and Range Rover Sport PHEV

The introduction of the ultra-luxurious Range Rover PHEV and sportier Range Rover Sport PHEV in the country are part of the global celebration of the 50th Anniversary of Range Rover’s luxury and all-terrain innovations. These two British PHEVs are the brand’s second steps of electrification here in the Philippines, with the first being the Range Rover Evoque mild-hybrid electric vehicle (MHEV) that was launched in 2019.

2020 Range Rover PHEV

Both PHEVs are equipped with a turbocharged 2.0-liter Ingenium 4-cylinder gasoline engine complemented by a 85-kilowatt electric motor to provide 398 horsepower (404 PS) and 640 Newton-meters of torque. Working in tandem, the Ingenium engine and electric motor provide 0-100 km/h acceleration times of 6.7 seconds for the Range Rover PHEV and and 6.8 seconds for the Range Rover Sport PHEV. Both PHEVs are capable of reaching top speeds of 220 km/h.

These two PHEVs offer two driving modes. The Parallel Hybrid driving mode, which is the default driving mode, combines the drive from the Ingenium engine and electric motor. The driver can optimize battery charge or fuel economy by utilizing one of two charge management functions – the “SAVE” function, which prevents the battery charge dropping below a pre-selected level and the “Predictive Energy Optimization (PEO)” function, which is activated by entering a destination in the navigation system that enables this feature to use the built-in GPS altitude data for the selected route and intelligently combine the gasoline engine and electric motor to maximize fuel economy.

On the other hand, the Electric Vehicle or EV driving mode enables the vehicle to run solely on the electric motor using the energy stored in the battery. This is the ideal setting for short, quiet, and zero-emission journeys around the city. In EV mode, the vehicle can be driven up to 50 kilometers solely on electric power without the engaging the Ingenium gasoline engine. This range is more than enough to make short electric-powered trips within Metro Manila with the luxury of near-silent driving and the confidence of driving with no tail pipe carbon emissions.

2020 Range Rover Sport PHEV

Because of the hybrid gasoline-electric powertrain, the Range Rover PHEV and Range Rover Sport PHEV produce only 64 g/km of CO2 emissions and return a fuel mileage of around 35.71 kilometers per liter (2.8L/100km) on the New European Driving Cycle (NEDC). In Parallel Hybrid Mode, both plug-in hybrid models can travel up to 700 kilometers before refueling.

2020 Range Rover PHEV

The Range Rover PHEV and Range Rover PHEV have a 13 kWH high-voltage lithium-ion battery that can be charged from zero to full in 2 hours and 45 minutes. The battery is covered with an 8-year, 160,000-kilometer, 70 percent health state warranty. Both PHEV models are capable of regenerative braking, where it can harness the energy during deceleration.

Range Rover Sport PHEV

Jaguar Land Rover Philippines released the prices of these new plug-in hybrid electric vehicles: The Range Rover Sport PHEV comes in at P9,490,000 while the Range Rover PHEV is available in Vogue standard wheelbase version at P11,990,000 and Autobiography long wheelbase version at P15,190,000.

The Type 2 charging plug is inserted at the port located at the left side of the front grill.

Each PHEV comes with a Type 2 Plug 7 kWh wall charger but installation costs are not included and it may vary per household. “To ensure their safety and compliance with electrical regulations, our supplier will be evaluating interested households if their homes are qualified for a charger before we even sell a plug-in hybrid electric vehicle”, added Chris. Interested clients may also purchase an additional charger for their second homes or offices, which will cost P105,000 (installation not included).

Each Range Rover PHEV variant comes with a Type 2 wall-mounted charger.

Fully Electric Jaguar I-Pace

The third vehicle that Chris Ward unveiled was one of smartest 5-seat sports car, the fully electric Jaguar I-Pace. As a vehicle driven purely by an electric motor, the I-Pace delivers power almost instantly. Jaguar claims that the I-Pace’s performance is unmatched by similar vehicles equipped with a conventional internal combustion engines and gearboxes, which delivers only around 70-75% of the power to the driving wheels. The I-Pace is claimed to deliver 97% of electric power to the wheels, and with 395 hp (400 PS) and 696 Nm of torque, accelerating from zero to 100 km/h happens in just 4.8 seconds without carbon emissions.

Jaguar boasts that I-Pace is a leap forward towards revolutionary design and technology. Similar to the best handling sports cars, the I-Pace keeps its weight between the wheels with the battery sitting low between the axles, allowing a near perfect 50:50 weight distribution. Two electric motors deliver power to where maximum grip is available among all four wheels. The body, made from alloy and steel, was fashioned to maximize strength and safety while minimizing weight. Its aerodynamics was designed to maintain downforce as speeds increase.

The I-Pace is claimed not only to be efficient on road, but also proficient to its users, as well. Users can leave the charger plugged and can set when the vehicle will be charged. The I-Pace can pre-condition the battery and cabin temperature before the planned departure. The thermal management system ensures the battery is optimized for the journey. Moreover, the I-Pace can also update its software over the air. This allows users to always get the latest version of the telematics and battery energy control software without visiting the Jaguar service center.

The Jaguar I-Pace is equipped with a 90-kW lithium ion high-voltage battery, which can be charged from zero to full in 12 hours and 48 minutes using the bundled 7-kW charger that is ideal for home charging. The battery pack can also be partially charged using regenerative braking that harnesses energy during deceleration. The I-Pace’s battery pack is likewise covered with an 8-year, 160,000-kilometer, 70 percent health state warranty. Jaguar claims a pure electric driving range of around 470 kilometers using the WLTP Cycle or Worldwide harmonized Light vehicle Test Procedure.

Interested clients can order their I-Pace to their liking. All units coming to the Philippines will be equipped with the latest upgrades and sport an 11-kW on-board charger to allow faster charging in the future. This sporty Jaguar EV will be equipped with the new Pivi Pro infotainment system that is designed to be as intuitive and easy to use as a smartphone.

All British Cars is now accepting orders for the all-electric Jaguar I-Pace, which is priced at P7,590,000. Each I-Pace comes complete with a Type 2 Plug 7 kW wall-mounted charger. Like the Range Rover PHEVs, installation costs of the wall charger are not included and may vary per household. JLR Philippines’ supplier will evaluate interested households if their homes are qualified for a charger before they will be sold an I-Pace. Clients have the option to purchase an additional charger for their second homes or offices, which will cost P105,000 (installation not included).
