Geely Philippines Introduces the All-New Azkarra via Online Digital Launch

How do you launch a new automotive product when there is a government ban on public gatherings to avoid the contagion of the deadly Corona virus? How do you set the standards for the New Normal? How do you disseminate the much needed information to your media partners and eventually, to your customers?

SGAP President and CEO Mikihisa Takayama

Sojitz G Auto Philippines (SGAP), the Philippine distributor of Geely automobiles may have started a trend in the motoring industry. The company has shown the sneak preview of the all-new Geely Azkarra to the Philippine motoring media through a digital launch today, March 28, 2020 at 11:00 AM. Then, on Saturday, May 30, 2020 at 6:00PM, the formal launch of the Geely Azkarra will be streamed to the public via Geely Philippines’ website, Facebook, and YouTube accounts.

The company confidently claims that the all-new Azkarra, which is completely redesigned from the first generation model that was launched in 2016, will redefine the compact SUV segment with its level of technology, design, and engineering. Geely Design China’s Vice President and General Manager Guy Burgoyne said that they have worked miracles to bring luxury brand level technology into the Azkarra.

“After listening to consumer feedback, we also wanted the user to have easier access to Azkarra’s technology and storage spaces by further refining our interior design”, said Burgoyne. “The previous generations of Azkarra were already praised by its users for its performance and technology. When it was first launched, it was given the nickname ‘the most beautiful SUV in China’ and with such high praise, we knew we had to work harder on the second and third generations.”

The integration of the mild hybrid technology into the Azkarra is a bold step for Geely as a new challenger in the Philippine automotive industry. SGAP President and CEO Mikihisa Takayama said, “Right now, we see that the auto industry is gearing towards hybrid and electric vehicle technology as it becomes increasingly popular.” The Azkarra comes with a 48-volt Electric Motor Synergy (EMS) model, powered by a 1.5-liter turbo-charged gasoline engine complemented by a 48V belt-starter generator (BSG), a 48V-12V DCDC converter, 48V lithium-ion battery module, and battery management system (BMS).

To help protect the occupants inside a Geely vehicle, SGAP announced that all Geely vehicles that are being sold in the Philippines, including the Azkarra and the Cool Ray, are now equipped with CN95 air filters to help prevent the spread of the COVID-19 virus. These cabin filters are designed to effectively filter out dust, harmful gases, particulate matter (PM) measuring 2.5 particles, and droplets with diameters larger than 0.74 microns that are often attached to corona viruses.

SGAP announced a competitive price range for the Geely Azkarra, starting at P1,438,000 for the front-wheel drive (FWD) Premium variant and P1,598,000 for the all-wheel drive (AWD) 48V EMS Luxury variant.

During the virtual launch, Geely Auto Group CEO An Conghui stated, “The Geely Azkarra is an affordable luxury SUV. With its technological power, refined interior, healthy space, and safety features, we are confident that it will bring a more enjoyable experience to your high-quality life.” He echoed the new vehicle’s brand promise, “Your Refined Ride starts with Azkarra.
