A Sneak Peek at the All-New 2020 Ford Explorer

When Ford Philippines unveiled the minor updates on their Ford Explorer midsize SUV in October 2018, we knew that it was just a matter of time before the all-new next-generation model was coming out. We took a sneak peek at the all-new 2020 Ford Explorer and it looks as if the Ford Motor Company has augmented the Explorer’s Range Rover-like appearance with a bit of American truck brutishness. From the limited information we acquired, the 2020 Explorer will have automatic high beams and automatic LED low-beam headlamps, quad chrome exhaust tips, unique grille with satin-aluminum finish, hands-free foot-activated rear tailgate, LED fog lamps and tail lamps, and privacy glass for the second and third rows.

Inside, it will have a standard air filtration system, tri-zone electronic temperature control, rear auxiliary climate control, first-row center floor console with wrapped armrest and storage bin, illuminated front scuff plates, overhead console with dome/map lights and sunglasses holder, rear view camera with washer, reverse sensing system, leather-wrapped steering wheel, a twin-panel moon roof and an optional Bang & Olufsen sound system.

Power can come from a 2.3-liter turbocharged, direct injection Ti-VCT EcoBoost inline 4-cylinder or a 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged EcoBoost V6 or a 3.3-liter Hybrid. The only available transmission is a 10-speed automatic with selectShift with paddle and rotary shifter. power gets transmitted to the ground via a new rear-wheel drive system or available intelligent four-wheel drive. A McPherson strut front suspension with 32mm front stabilizer bar works with the rear multi-link independent suspension with 22mm rear stabilizer bar. Stopping power is by power-assisted 4-wheel disc brakes with ABS while steering is electronic power-assisted EPAS.

Intelligent 4WD will include Hill Descent Control, AdvanceTrac with Roll Stability Control, and Terrain Management systems. 20-inch bright machined-face aluminum wheels shod with P255/55R20 tires are standard with optional 21-inch premium aluminum wheels. Safety features include Belt-Minder seat belt reminder, front passenger knee airbags, LATCH lower anchors and tether anchors for children, and safety canopy system. Security features include battery saver, ITPMS tire pressure monitoring system, perimeter alarm, remote keyless/illuminated entry, and SecuriLock passive anti-theft system. We have no confirmation yet when the 2020 Ford Explorer will be introduced here in the Philippines. Stay tuned!
