Hongqi E-HS7 and E-H7 Receive 5-Star Euro NCAP Safety Rating

As the Chinese luxury car brand Hongqi continues to dazzle the Philippine automobile market, it remains committed to the highest standards of vehicle safety, with its newest flagship electric models – the E-H7 and E-HS7 – scoring  5-Star Ratings in the Euro New Car Assessment Program (NCAP) standardized safety test. These models add to Hongqi’s already stellar record for safety, with the E-HS9 also having previously received a 5-Star Rating from the Euro NCAP.

The Hongqi E-HS9 full-size luxury SUV achieved a 5-Star Euro NCAP rating after being subjected to the same rigorous tests as the E-H7 midsize luxury sedan and E-HS7 midsize luxury SUV.

For the models to secure the 5-Star Rating, sample vehicles must undergo and pass several extreme testing challenges. Among the tests, the vehicles are subjected to a Water Submersion Test to determine how well the vehicle can resist flood damage as well as leakages, smoke, explosion, and fire tests. The E-H7 and E-HS7 passed the test and showed no leak, smoke, explosion, or fire from the battery pack’s electrolyte. The passenger cabin showed that it was well-sealed with no water leakage.

The E-H7 & E-HS7 easily waded through the Euro NCAP Water Challenge.

The Simulated Front and Rear Collisions tests are conducted at speeds of up to 100 km/h with the front and rear vehicles, which weigh 1.7 tons each, colliding with the Hongqi. After the collision, the E-H7 and E-HS7  showed no significant deformation of the A-, B-, or C-pillars, which provided ample survival space for the occupants, while the doors can be opened normally, and the seatbelts and airbags worked as designed, achieving a 97.1% score for excellent occupant protection.

The E-H7 & E-HS7 achieved a 97.1 score after the Front & Rear Collision tests, which shows a high protection rate for the safety of its occupants.

The Dedicated Side Impact Assessments hurled the Hongqi EVs against a strong, stationary barrier at speed to simulate skidding sideways into a fixed heavy object, such as a utlity pole or a sturdy tree. The E-H7 and E-HS7 body deformed within a reasonable range, showed no significant deformation of the pillars so the doors can be opened normally, and with side airbags and air curtains deploying as designed. It achieved a 100% score rate resulting in excellent occupant protection.

The last test is the Side Compression Test to simulate a massive object falling onto the vehicle or the vehicle flipping unto its roof. The test is performed with an equivalent to nearly 7.8 tons of pressure placed on the driver’s side of the E-H7 and E-HS7 panoramic glass roof. This final test showed minimal deformation leaving ample survival space for occupants.
