Grab Launches Philippines’ First Fully Electric Taxi Fleet In a significant milestone for sustainable transportation in the Philippines, Grab Philippines has introduced GrabTaxi Electric—the nation’s first fully electric, on-demand taxi fleet officially recognized by the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB). This all-electric fleet, launched in collaboration with local operator EV Taxi Corp, has begun operations in key Metro Manila hubs, including Makati, Taguig, Pasig, Mandaluyong, Parañaque, and Pasay. The rollout marks a pivotal regulatory and operational achievement, as the country continues to transition from traditional combustion engine vehicles to cleaner, more sustainable mobility solutions. The launch builds on Grab’s June 2024 pilot study with BYD Philippines, which demonstrated the operational and financial viability of electric vehicles for fleet operators and driver-partners alike. The findings underscore that electrification is not merely an environmental necessity but also a cost-effective and scalable model for urban transportation. “This is more than just offering another ride option,” said Ronald Roda, Grab Philippines Country Head. “It’s about fundamentally transforming urban transport in the Philippines—aligning with our sustainability commitments, empowering Filipino commuters, and fostering green livelihoods. Sustainability should be accessible today, not just in the future. With GrabTaxi Electric, it’s a reality you can book, ride, and feel good about.” GrabTaxi Electric is a key component of Grab’s broader eco-mobility strategy, which aims to expand EV adoption across its GrabCar fleet in regional cities such as Davao and Cagayan de Oro within the year. The initiative includes in-app features like voluntary contributions for environmental conservation with every transaction and deeper collaborations with government and private sector partners to accelerate the development of a nationwide EV ecosystem. “As a local operator, we are proud to be leading this transformation,” said Frankie Ang, President of EV Taxi Corp. “Our partnership with Grab demonstrates that when multinational platforms collaborate with local innovators, we can accelerate the shift towards a cleaner, more inclusive transportation future—delivering value for both passengers and drivers.” The launch has been welcomed by commuter advocates. “Zero-emission transportation is no longer a luxury—it’s a necessity,” commented Ira Panganiban of the Coalition of Filipino Commuters. “GrabTaxi Electric shows that sustainability can be integrated into everyday systems. We hope this initiative sparks a ripple effect across the industry.” Currently in beta, GrabTaxi Electric allows passengers to seamlessly book electric taxis within the Transport tab of the Grab app, alongside other Grab mobility services. Feedback collected during this phase will inform future enhancements, expansion plans, and service models. As Philippine cities face the urgent challenges of climate change and urban congestion, Grab’s electric fleet initiative exemplifies a bold vision: to future-proof transportation and mainstream clean mobility for a sustainable urban future. #ElectricVehicle #Electrification BYD PHILIPPINES Grab Philippines GrabTaxi Electric 2025-06-05 Shawie Dizon
