To mark its 80th anniversary next year, Mercedes-Benz Special Trucks has taken on a special challenge: In collaboration with conversion partner Hellgeth Engineering, the most powerful off-road Unimog to date has been created as a show car for the luxury segment, featuring improved performance and expanded comfort features.
Mercedes-Benz Special Trucks CEO Franziska Cusumano stated, “With the luxury Unimog show car, we have realized our vision of combining the legendary robustness and off-road capability of the Unimog with an entirely new standard of comfort and engineering skills. This Unimog is a statement of innovation and passion.”
Fulfillment of Customers’ Wishes
With this customized version, Mercedes-Benz sets new standards in the Unimog segment and fulfills a long-standing wish of many international Unimog customers: to complement the Unimog’s decades-long, nearly unrivaled off-road capabilities with even greater power and a distinctive design.
The Unimog, which was designed for the toughest civilian and military applications and is unique in this technical configuration, has mostly been driven in its stock, factory-spec configuration. To gain valuable insights for a possible future development stage, this customized version will be tested by a lucky customer in real world conditions next year.
More Power + Double Cab Space
The luxury Unimog is based on the highly off-road-capable Unimog U 4023, featuring portal axles and a flexible frame. Combined with selectable all-wheel drive and longitudinal and differential locks on both axles, it ensures the necessary traction and control even in challenging terrain.
The standard four-cylinder engine has been replaced by a Mercedes-Benz six-cylinder OM 936 delivering 300 hp (220 kW). This modification provides higher performance, optimized transmission tuning, and increased driving comfort. The double cab offers space for up to four people. A MirrorCam system has also been installed: digital cameras and monitors replace traditional exterior mirrors, providing improved all-round visibility and enhanced safety.

Inside, there’s premium leather, ergonomic seats with colored stitching, leather floor mats, and LED interior lights.
The Unimog’s striking exterior is inspired by SUVs and includes matte grey paintwork, aluminum bead-lock wheels, and a distinctive lighting concept with modern LED headlights. Inside the cab, premium leather surfaces, ergonomic seats with colored stitching, leather floor mats, and LED lighting emphasize the vehicle’s premium character.
