The country’s leading automotive industry association, the Chamber of Automotive Manufacturers of the Philippines, Incorporated, or more popularly known by its acronym, CAMPI, celebrated its 30th Anniversary with a Gala Dinner at the Grand Hyatt in Bonifacio Global City (BGC) on May 29, 2025. With the theme “30 Years and Beyond“, CAMPI sets its goals for the next three decades with a renewed vision for the future.

“Since CAMPI was formed three decades ago, the association has made significant strides in enabling automotive manufacturing and advancing motorization in the country,” said Hon. Jose Chaves Alvarez, Chairman and Founder of CAMPI. “This resulted in the industry’s unmatched collective contribution to the economy and in improving the lives of Filipinos – both from the side of the automotive labor force and the customers and end users of various mobility services and solutions. We could have not done this without our inter-industry collaboration and our partnership with government institutions.”

United with a New Vision
CAMPI Chairman Alvarez added, “After 30 fruitful years of CAMPI, especially when the mobility industry is in the middle of another great transformation, we commit to be ready for what’s beyond. That is why tonight is more than just celebrating our glorious past. It is about creating the future of mobility as one united CAMPI.” As CAMPI enters its fourth decade, the organization unveiled a new vision: To foster mobility transition in the Philippines while creating competitive conditions and opportunities for a vibrant automotive industry, and positive outcomes for the economy and society.
“As we grow stronger and bigger as an association and as we move forward, CAMPI remains firmly committed to the four pillars of Technology & Innovation, Road Safety, Sustainability, and Industry Development,” said Atty. Rommel Gutierrez, President of CAMPI. “These guiding principles will help ensure that the Philippine automotive industry continues to thrive and lead in the face of change.” Atty. Gutierrez emphasized the four key pillars that will guide CAMPI to respond to the rapidly evolving automotive landscape. These are:
- Technology & Innovation – Moving forward CAMPI focuses on embracing advancements in electric vehicles (EVs), connected platforms, and autonomous driving technologies, all aimed at delivering smarter and more efficient mobility solutions.
- Road Safety – Reinforces the need for standardized safety protocols, mutual recognition agreements (MRAs), and alignment with global benchmarks to ensure safer road environments for all users.
- Sustainability – Underscores CAMPI’s commitment to environmental responsibility by advocating for carbon neutrality through electrification, fuel diversification, and energy-efficient practices.
- Industry Development – Centered on strengthening regional integration, investing in the upskilling of human capital, and preparing the Philippine automotive sector to align with and excel in global market trends.

28 Members, 92% of the Auto Market & Several Pending Applications
Since its foundation on May 16, 1995, CAMPI has been instrumental in championing the interests of the Philippine automotive sector while contributing significantly to the nation’s economic growth. As of May 2025, the CAMPI member-companies are comprised of 28 automotive companies that account for more than 92 percent of the total local auto sales. There are 8 Regular member-companies, which have local manufacturing and assembly, and 20 Associate member-companies that do not assemble or manufacture but only imports and distributes their automotive products.

Atty. Gutierrez reiterated CAMPI’s commitment to support future policies and further development of the Philippine auto industry.

Special Recognition & Heartfelt Keynote Speech
Former CAMPI President Elizabeth Lee arrived just as the program was a bout to start and was immediately approached by her numerous friends. She was visibly surprised when she was called on stage to be given a bouquet of flowers and a Special Recognition for her service as the President of CAMPI for seven productive years. During her tenure with CAMPI, Ms. Lee was the President of Universal Motors Corporation, which at the time, was the distributor of Nissan pickup trucks (Navara), SUVs (Terrano, Murano, Patrol), vans (Urban), and light commercial vehicles (Cabstar) before its integration with Nissan Motor Philippines (NMPI) to form the current Nissan Philippines, Inc. (NPI).

The keynote speaker of the evening, Department of Transportation (DOTr) Secretary Vince Dizon, spoke from the heart when he enjoined CAMPI member-companies, their leaders, managers, and employees, members of the media, and everybody present in the gathering to help fix the “broken” system of driving courtesy, road safety and traffic management. He narrated that President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos, Jr. was alarmed with the increased number of fatalities from road accidents, especially the recent ones along SCTEX where a Solid North bus rammed and flattened a van that killed a number of the van’s passengers and most specially, the unfortunate accident at the airport where a liittle girl was killed. He vowed to tirelessly worked on reforms to ensure safety for all road users.
Anniversary Gala & Reunion
The CAMPI 30th Anniversary Gala Dinner came to a close after the traditional toast with CAMPI Chairman & Founder Hon. Jose Ch. Alvarez, CAMPI President Atty. Rommel Gutierrez, and DOTr Secretary Vince Dizon toasting to the next 30 years and beyond along with the presidents and officers of the 28 CAMPI member companies present that evening. The buffet dinner was opened with a special performance courtesy of the Grand Hyatt Ballroom dining personnel, who invited the attendees to partake of the sumptuous buffet to the tune of “Be Our Guest” from the Disney movie, “Beauty and the Beast“.

The anniversary celebration provided an opportunity for attendees and guests to catch up with former colleagues, meet new faces at CAMPI, and reconnect with old friends from the auto industry. It was a indeed a great night to look back at the past 30 years of the Philippine auto industry, to assess the current acheivements this year, to to look forward to the future of the Philippine Automotive Industry, 30 Years and Beyond!
