Welcome to the inaugural post in our new “Timepieces” section of your Power Wheels Magazine!
We’ve observed that automobile and motorcycle enthusiasts tend to be enthusiasts of watches and horology as well. It must be the mechanical connection between cars, motorcycle and watches. After all, whether the timepiece is mechanical or quartz, there are wheels and gears that drive the hour, minute and second hands. Thus, this new “Timepieces” section.
And since we started this section today, the 1st of September 2026, we decided to post the Seiko watches from our meager collection. We plan to post a different Seiko for each day of September as our opening salvo and call this series as “Seikos in September”, starting with this highly-regarded and collectible 1964 Seiko Lord Marvel.
Our featured 62-year-old Seiko (Reference 15023) is a vintage hand-wind Seikosha 23-jewel timepiece with Diashock movement. This particular Lord Marvel is considered as one of the “Early” models that were made between 1962 and 1964.
The 14K gold-filled case is around 35 millimeters in diameter, 41 mm lug-to-lug, and weighs around 12 grams with a leather strap that fit into 18mm lugs.
The acrylic crystal showcases a satin silver dial that is swept by a thin gold-plated second hand while gold-plated dauphine hour and minute hands point to gold-plated indices.
Introduced in 1958, the Lord Marvel was Seiko’s first high-end luxury watch model before the launch of the original Grand Seiko in 1960. Positioned just below the Grand Seiko tier in quality, precision, and craftsmanship. Lord Marvel models are highly prized by collectors as a vital piece of Japanese watchmaking history. Some vintage watch collectors even prefer it over the first Grand Seiko.
